Gulay Ozkan, founder of GEDS Design Consultancy, sat down with Josh Kampel, CEO of Worth Media Group at Davos to explore the evolving role of AI in the future of work and skills. Drawing from her background in engineering and user experience, Ozkan shared a nuanced perspective on AI’s disruptive potential, highlighting both its opportunities and challenges.

Ozkan underscored that AI differs from past technological advancements in its ability to replace human skills rather than simply augment them. This shift raises concerns about job displacement, as AI may eliminate roles faster than new ones are created. However, she also acknowledged AI’s potential to unlock new industries and job categories, provided that workers are given the opportunity to reskill and upskill.

One of the key challenges, she noted, is the difficulty of changing mindsets when preparing workers for an AI-driven economy. While automation will take over certain skill sets, many roles will still require human expertise—especially those that rely on creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence.

Ozkan cautioned against overestimating AI’s short-term impact while underestimating its long-term potential. She stressed that technological shifts are exponential, making it crucial for businesses, educators, and policymakers to adapt swiftly to ensure that AI serves as a tool for progress rather than disruption.
