November was a historic month for Barbados. The island nation saw the end of Queen Elizabeth IIโs reign, as it became a republic. And with that, Dame Sandra Mason was elected as the countryโs very first president. Prior to becoming president, Mason had been Barbadosโ governor-general since 2017. She is no stranger to being a groundbreaking woman, as she was the first female to be admitted to the bar in Barbados and to become a judge on the countryโs Court of Appeals.ย
