LOUIS XIII COGNAC: A HISTORY

A gift that is rare, memorable and timeless is hard to come by. Luckily, LOUIS XIII captures these sentiments and more—all in one beautiful decanter—just in time for the holiday season. The French luxury spirits brand, LOUIS XIII, has launched its first edition of the Time Collection, a series of one-of-a-kind decanters that draws upon the brand’s rich history. The first in this series, “The Origin – 1874,” harkens back to the original decanter design that was used 142 years ago.

TIMELESSNESS IN A DECANTER

The first iteration of LOUIS XIII Cognac was created in 1874. From that first batch to today, every decanter ever made of LOUIS XIII takes four generations of cellar masters more than 100 years to craft, as they only pull from the finest eaux-de-vie, the youngest of which is at least 40 years old. To celebrate this prestigious history, the “Time Collection: The Origin – 1874” is the first in a series of limited editions that highlight special chapters in the brand’s storied history.

FROM THE GROUND UP

Paul-Émile Rémy Martin, great-grandson of the Rémy Martin founder, purchased a flask in 1850. But this wasn’t just any flask: The metal container was dug up by a farmer in his field at Jarnac, near Cognac. And this wasn’t any field: It was the site of a historic battle nearly 300 years before, in 1569. The flask was stamped with the fleur-de-lys, which meant only a royal soldier of the French monarchy could have carried it. This flask served as Paul-Émile Rémy Martin’s inspiration for the iconic decanter LOUIS XIII is known for today.

TIME GOES BY

Following the Origin–1874, the Time Collection will launch a number of limited editions. Each one of the series is an invitation to take a journey back through the history of LOUIS XIII.
