Jim McCann, founder of 1-800-FLOWERS and executive chairman of Worth, has had two real careers paths in his life: social worker and florist. While these two paths might seem mutually exclusive, for McCann, they go hand-in-hand. He bought his first flower shop while working as a social worker at a home for boys in Queens, New York.

“I bought the flower shop, Anthony, not just to be a florist, which of course I became, but also to build a business,” McCann said to Anthony Scaramucci during one of the latest virtual SALT Talks. Watch McCann’s SALT Talk below to learn how he grew his first flower shop into an international company, the importance of building a relationship with customers in the digital age, and the future of brick-and-mortar retail.
