Social scientist, Sarah Vieweg researches a variety of topics including: the intersection of human-computer interaction, computer-mediated communication, and computer-supported cooperative work. She is interested in how people use and appropriate social networking services in crisis events, and in humanitarian response. In addition, she looks at how citizens of Arab Gulf countries use and perceive information communication technology in their everyday lives, with an eye toward defining design principles that consider non-Western cultural values. She is currently a scientist in the Social Computing Group at the Qatar Computing Research Institute.

Sarah holds a BA in Economics and French from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, an MA in Linguistics from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a Ph.D. in Technology, Media and Society from the University of Colorado Boulder. Prior to her position in Qatar, she worked at Oblong Industries.
