Paula Goldman
Paula Goldman is global lead of theย Tech and Society Solutions Labย atย Omidyar Network, the Silicon Valley impact investment firm established in 2004 by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam to catalyze economic and social change.
The Tech and Society Solutions Lab draws on Omidyar Networkโs long-standing belief in the promise of technology to create opportunity and social good, as well as the concern about unintended consequences that can result from technological innovation. The team aims to help technologists prevent, mitigate, and correct societal downsides of technologyโand maximize positive impact.
This work builds on Paulaโs previous role at Omidyar Network as the global lead for impact investing. Paula earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University, where she studied how unorthodox ideas become mainstream. Earlier in her career she was on founding teams of several for-profit and non-profit start-ups, mostly in emerging markets.
A group of tech leaders lead by the Omidyar Network and Craig Newmark will be awarding up to $3.5 million in prizes to creative efforts to integrate ethics into technical computer science education.
Exclusive to Techonomy: The Omidyar Network and the Institute for the Futureย introduce an "Ethical Operating System,"ย ย a toolkit for helping developers and designers anticipate the impact of technologies theyโre working on today. The hope is that technologists can begin to build responsibility into core business and product decisions, and contribute to a thriving tech industry.
