Mayor Frank G. Jackson is the City of Cleveland’s longest serving mayor, currently in his historic fourth term. On Jan. 2, 2006, Mayor Jackson became the city’s 56th mayor and has since been re-elected to serve the city three times – in 2009, 2013 and 2017.
Mayor Jackson is focused on ensuring Clevelanders of all backgrounds and in all neighborhoods are provided with excellent services and opportunities for income equity and a strong quality of life. In 2016, Mayor Jackson successfully led the voter-approved Issue 32 to strengthen services to citizens ranging from public works to youth programs to safety to public health, sustainability and more.
Mayor Jackson is also committed to helping businesses – large and small – to succeed, which in turn helps the city become more prosperous. During his tenure, Mayor Jackson has also worked to strengthen the city’s reputation as a world-class destination, drawing national events like the 2016 Republican National Convention to Cleveland.
Mayor Jackson earned an associate’s degree from Cuyahoga Community College and his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and law degree from Cleveland State University. He began his public service career as an Assistant City Prosecutor in the Cleveland Municipal Court Clerk’s Office. From 1990 to 2005, Jackson represented Cleveland’s Ward 5 on Cleveland City Council. From 2002-2005, he also served as President of Cleveland City Council.
Mayor Jackson is a life-long resident of the Central neighborhood, a Cleveland Metropolitan School District graduate and an Army veteran.
