Lรกzaro Cunha is currently the Project Director at Steve Biko Cultural Institute (SBCI), an organization of the black movement that has been contributing greatly to the process of democratization of higher education in Brazil by organizing mobilizations, as well as by developing projects that seek to ensure the admission of Afro-Brazilian students at Brazilian universities. ย He is also responsible for coordinating the program OGUNTEC, which is a pioneer program in Brazil that seeks to encourage young black men and women to develop an interest and a professional training in the sciences. ย Lรกzaro Cunha was a Ford Fellow between the years of 2006 and 2008 and is currently an ASHOKA fellow of the social entrepreneurs network. ย Lรกzaro Cunha earned both his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and his Masterโs degree in History and Philosophy from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA).
