Kristen Bole

Assistant Director, Public Affairs, University of California San Francisco

Kristen Bole is assistant director of public affairs for the University of California, San Francisco. In that capacity, she oversees campus external communications for the health sciences university, while also covering the fields of genetics, precision medicine, federal science funding and industry partnerships. She joined UCSF in 2007 after nearly 20 years of experience in business journalism, marketing, executive staffing and public relations in health and science. Kristen’s career has taken her around the world, ranging from the Peace Corps in The Central African Republic to her master’s research in Central American rain forests, to a role in starting up a business newspaper in Bangkok. She worked for more than a decade as an award-winning business journalist and editor and has six years of experience in public information, including writing White House and Cabinet-level briefings and conducting national emergency communications. She graduated from Cornell University and has a master’s in science journalism from Columbia University. She has lived throughout the world and has studied seven languages.
