Eric Schadt

Eric Schadt, Ph.D., was the Founding Director of the Icahn Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology, Chair of the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences, and the Jean C. and James W. Crystal Professor of Genomics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Schadt is an expert on the generation and integration of very large-scale sequence variation, molecular profiling and clinical data in disease populations for constructing molecular networks that define disease states and link molecular biology to physiology. Over the past 20 years, he has built groups and companies (genetics and systems biology groups at Merck, the computational biology group at Rosetta, Sage Bionetworks, Pacific Biosciences, the Icahn Institute of Genomics and Multiscale Biology, and now Sema4) to elucidate common human diseases and drug response, using novel integrative genomics approaches based on genetic and molecular profiling data. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers in leading scientific journals, and contributed to a number of discoveries relating to the genetic basis of common human diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Previously, Dr. Schadt was Chief Scientific Officer at Pacific Biosciences, where he created the vision for next-generation applications of its technology, contributed to the evolution of its transformative sequencing technology, and played a key role in developing strategic relationships. Earlier in his career, Dr. Schadt was Executive Scientific Director of Genetics at Rosetta Inpharmatics, a subsidiary of Merck & Co., and Senior Research Scientist at Roche.
