Edward Luce

As chief U.S. commentator for the Financial Times, Edward Luce writes a weekly column on U.S. politics, economy, and foreign policy. Previously, Edward served as the FT’s Washington bureau chief, leading coverage of American politics and managing the D.C.-based team of reporters. He has also worked as the FT’s South Asia bureau chief in New Delhi, capital markets editor in London, and as the Philippines correspondent. Between December 1999 and January 2001, Edward was the speechwriter for Lawrence H. Summers, secretary of the treasury during the Clinton administration. He is the author of “In Spite of the Gods: The Strange Rise of Modern India,” published in 2006, and “Time to Start Thinking: America in the Age of Descent,” published in 2012. Edward graduated with degrees in politics, philosophy, and economics from Oxford University, and completed a post-graduate degree in journalism from City University in London.
