Since emerging onto the music scene at age 18 as a member of the seminal rock band Green on Red, Prophet has collaborated with everyone from Warren Zevon and Kelly Willis to Jim Dickinson and Lucinda Williams among many others. In recent years, Prophetโs music has been featured in several hit television series including HBOโs โTrue Blood,โ Showtimeโs โCalifornication,โ and FXโs โSons of Anarchy.โ He also co-wrote all the songs on Alejandro Escovedoโs 2008 critically acclaimed album Real Animal. His 13th studio album, โNight Surferโ, is out now on Yep Roc Records.
About the tech economy, Chuck says, “San Francisco is once again under siege by predatory tech nerds and drones, plutocrats and wiz kids. With no real culture. Whatever youโve been told. Technology does not equal culture. People have reacted in different ways to this onslaught. The Occupy Movement for one. And you may have heard of people laying down in front of google buses in protest. etc. But thereโs also the path of art.โ
Prophetโs widely praised 2012 release, “Temple Beautiful”, is an homage to the city and era of San Francisco that helped forge his career. One man’s alternative history of three decades of West Coast culture and politics. He will be performing a few songs from that album at TE15.
