Senior Director and Head of Technology Sector Industries, World Economic Forum

As the Head of the Technology Sector, Alan Marcus has global responsibility of shaping the agenda across the IT, Electronics, Software, IT Services, and Telecommunications industries. In this role, he manages an exclusive list of top industry leaders, top knowledge experts, civil society leaders and government and public figures engaging them in public-private dialogue and cooperation. He as broad responsibilities for developing programmatic work streams, improving the quality and diversity of the partnership and providing general leadership for the Centre for Global Industries at the Forum.

A noted authority on digital technology, policy and governance mechanisms, Alan has participated as an expert on numerous panels and lectures on the subject, including UN’s Internet Governance Forum, OECD workshops, ITU workshops, and other ministerial programmes. He also develops and leads panels at the World Economic Forum. He is co-author of “Beyond Cyber Security”, a hands-on guide that includes the practical steps institutions can take to achieve digital resilience and protect against cyber-attacks while creating value from technology investments and innovation.

He currently leads Future of the Internet iniative with focus on governance and mechanisms on the Internet, cybersecurity, Internet for all, evidence based decision making, and digital transformation of industries.

Prior to the World Economic Forum, Alan had senior management roles at both Symbol Technologies and Cisco Systems where he held positions in Marketing, Market Development, Product Development, and Process Development in the United States, Asia Pacific and Europe.
