Stephen Hammer currently serves as Founding CEO of the New York Climate Exchange, an NGO working to speed and scale climate solutions at both the local and global levels. Dr. Hammer has 30+ years of international experience working on climate change and climate finance issues. Hammer joined The Exchange after spending 11 years at the World Bank as a Senior Climate Policy Advisor, where he led on all major global climate partnerships (with the UNFCCC, UN Secretary Generalโs team, G7 and G20) and represented the Bank as a technical advisor to the UNFCCC’s Transitional Committee charged with setting up the new global fund on Loss and Damage. Dr. Hammer was previously on the faculty at MIT and Columbia University, where his research focused on urban energy systems and urban climate resilience. Dr. Hammer holds degrees from the London School of Economics, Harvard University, and UC Davis.
