Phil has worked in technology for nearly 30 years across a variety of roles, most recently as Apptio’s Field CTO. After starting as employee number 30, Phil helped grow the company to over 1,500 employees and took the company through IPO, private equity ownership and a $4.6 billion acquisition by IBM to interlock with the greater IBM Software Automation portfolio.
Philโs role is to oversee the execution of technical field sales with a focus on gotomarket storytelling that immediately conveys the value of complex software to practitioners and executives alike. Additionally, Phil leads technical partnership efforts to design and prove out joint synergies between Apptio solutions and our partners.
A partial list of Philโs recent accomplishments:
- Prototyped the integration between Turbonomic and Cloudability that created the investment thesis for the $4.6 billion IBM acquisition.
- Commissioned carbon / sustainability offerings to calculate emissions for datacenters and cloud services.
- Put into practice the Cloud Optimization Index Number (aka COIN) to gamify FinOps practices and get engineers to take action to optimize cloud usage via Rightsizing and Reserved Instance usage.
- Designed a working prototype to integrate Flexera data for Software Asset Management, Obsolescence and License Management to integrate with Apptioโs platforms.
- Collaborated with zSeries mainframe specialists to develop Total Cost of Ownership and Insights for mainframe service consumption.
