OBJECT OF DESIRE: The FEED 2 Bag from Lauren Bush

E-mailPrint

Spring 2009

Twenty-five-year-old Lauren Bush could have gone the route of some of her contemporaries, like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, becoming better known for her antics than her ethics. Instead, the erstwhile model (and niece of former president George W.) has raised some $4 million to fight world hunger. An honorary spokesperson for the United Nations World Food Program, Bush cofounded FEED Projects in 2007 to raise money for hungry schoolchildren around the world. Since then, she’s been selling the organization’s ecofriendly burlap FEED bags, using the profits to buy food for 40,000 kids.

WHY YOU NEED IT
Coming in June, the double-sided FEED 2 bag is handstitched by a co-op of Kenyan women using the traditional fabric of the rural Masai tribe. (In Kenya, Bush says, the Masai wear the vibrant red and blue cloth to scare off lions.) Leather straps and beaded detailing enhance the “Kenya aesthetic” and update the original FEED design with a handcrafted style. FEED 2 is sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman for $195.
